Rehome Your Pet

If you can no longer keep your pet, the services below can help you find it a new family directly, without bringing it to the shelter first.

Lantern Animal Welfare Society

This regional animal welfare nonprofit runs an online rehoming program. Owners can post a profile of their pet on the group's website so that interested adopters can find it.

Pets listed through the program must be healthy, current on all of their vaccinations, and spayed or neutered. Owners who use the rehoming service can get a combined spay/neuter and vaccination package for $45.

Adopt-a-Pet and the Petco Foundation

These two national organizations have teamed up on a rehoming service. You build an online profile for your pet and look for possible adopters, and a dedicated support team helps you choose the right match and complete the adoption.

Petfinder

Petfinder runs a searchable online database of animals looking for homes. Its website also lists shelters and rescue groups that use the service.

Urban Tails Rescue

Through a guest listing program, Urban Tails Rescue will feature your dog on its website, and you are welcome to bring your dog to any of the group's adoption events. Details about the program are on the rescue's website.

Surrendering Your Pet

Fredville Paws Adoption Center can only accept animals from people who live inside the city limits, or animals that were originally adopted from our center. Depending on an animal's health, its behavior or the space we have available, humane euthanasia may be necessary.

We take in a very large number of animals, so owners who need to surrender a pet must first join our waitlist. We will call you to book an intake appointment once your turn comes up.
