Fredville's city government relies on residents who give their time and energy to serve on boards and commissions. Their participation helps shape where the city goes next.
A notice of possible quorum for the orientation session for new board and commission members is available as a PDF document.
Qualifications for Appointment
Most appointments are made once a year in July, when terms end on July 31, and at other times whenever a seat opens up. The City Secretary's Office manages the yearly appointment cycle.
Application
Complete the board and commission application (PDF) and send it to the City Secretary's Office using the contact information at the bottom of this page.
Selection Process
The mayor and city council appoint members to three-year terms. Except for members of the Fredville Sports Facilities Development Corporation board and a few other cases, no one may hold a seat on the same board, commission or agency for more than two three-year terms in a row, or for more than six straight years. The council may waive that limit for a particular appointment by a vote of three-fourths of its full membership.
New appointees are chosen each July and whenever an opening needs to be filled. On boards with nine seats, the mayor and each council member name one member apiece, and that member's term runs alongside the term of the official who made the appointment.
When a board has more or fewer than nine members, the city council fills its seats by majority vote.
Every board and commission sets its own attendance rules and decides how they are enforced. The city council may remove and replace a member who misses three regular meetings in a row.
With limited exceptions, a resident may hold a seat on only one board or commission at a time.
