City Secretary

The City Secretary's Office runs every city election and serves as the official keeper of city records, from council minutes, resolutions and ordinances to contracts and other documents that make up the city's history. The office also coordinates appointments to boards and commissions, answers requests for information under the City Charter and the Texas Public Information Act, prepares the agendas and minutes for all City Council meetings, and trains and supports the secretaries of city boards on managing their agendas.

The job is often compared to that of a secretary of state at the state or federal level, and it relies heavily on legal and legislative research. Texas law requires every city to have a municipal clerk, usually called the city secretary, and it is the only position a city must fill as soon as it incorporates.
