Thanks for considering the foster program. The Fredville Paws Adoption Center takes in stray and owned animals of every age, health condition, species and breed, which adds up to around 6,000 animals per year. That is why we always need people and families willing to give their time, energy and affection so we can save as many lives as possible. When you open your home to an animal in need, you help get a pet ready for a permanent family, and you help build a better future for local animals and the people who love them.
What Does a Foster Home Do?
A foster home gives a pet loving, short-term care until the animal is adopted into a permanent home. Each foster home expands how many animals we can care for, and together they save a great many lives. Fosters come in every shape and size, and when you apply, we will work to pair you with the foster pet that best suits your household.
Which Animals Need Foster Care?
- Kittens and puppies too young for adoption
- Pregnant or nursing mothers and their litters
- Cats and dogs recovering from an injury or illness
- Shy or "socially awkward" cats and dogs that need help with their behavior
- Displaced animals that need a place to stay for a while
What Fosters Do
- Work on their own while following program instructions and policies
- Drive foster animals to and from veterinary visits and adoption events
- Give the animal daily care and socialization
- Keep track of the animal's health, energy and behavior
- Reach out with questions, or call whenever a concern comes up
How long an animal stays with you depends on the kind of foster care it needs, and we can plan around your schedule and preferences.
