A driveway approach is the paved connection between the roadway of a public street and a defined area on private property, such as a parking pad, that vehicles use to enter and leave the lot. Every residential driveway approach, no matter its size, needs a permit approved by the Building Inspections Division.
All residential driveways have to meet the driveway and access standards in the City of Fredville Unified Development Code. The division's Residential Approach (Driveway) Requirements handout (PDF) summarizes those standards.
Step 1. Review the Requirements
Before a residential driveway approach permit can be issued, you will need to provide:
- The project address and its legal description
- Contact details for the owner, contractor and/or architect
- The square footage and area affected by the work
- The class of work and a description (electrical, plumbing, mechanical), along with the project valuation and the market value of the property
- A site plan showing the property line, any existing easements, where the new driveway or approach will go, and its dimensions
- Construction specifications, including the concrete mix, rebar size, and the length and width of the approach
Step 2. Apply Online
Building permit applications are submitted through the city's online permitting portal. New users need a working email address to register, and setting up an account usually takes about five minutes.
What Happens Next
Once your online application is complete, processing typically takes 5 to 10 business days. It can take longer if staff need corrections or more information from you.
