Getting a Permit
Every garage sale held inside Fredville city limits must be registered online with the Code Compliance Division. Follow the steps below to get your permit.
Step 1: Check the Rules
- Sales are allowed only at residential properties where someone lives.
- Permits are issued online only.
- A single property may host no more than two sales in any 12-month period, and no sale may run longer than three days in a row.
- You may place up to six signs on the lot where the sale is held. Write the permit number in the upper right corner of each sign. Signs may not go on utility poles or in street medians, and they must never block the view of drivers or people walking by.
- Take every sign down as soon as the sale ends.
Step 2: Apply Online
Garage sale permits are requested through the City's website, fredville.gov. If this is your first time, you will need a working email address or mobile phone number to create an account, which takes about five minutes.
Step 3: Skip the Printer
Beginning in August 2026, staff review every garage sale permit application before it is approved. Plan on about 24 hours for applications sent on a weekday and up to 72 hours for those sent over the weekend. Once your permit is verified, you will get a text or an email, whichever you chose, with your permit details. Printing a copy is no longer required.
By Phone or In Person
Applications must be filed through the City's online Code Compliance portal; staff cannot accept them in person. If you need help completing the online form, give us a call.
