Fredville operates four flood warning sirens, each placed in a part of the city that lies within the 100-year floodplain.
Flooding can happen in these areas, and getting in or out of them may become impossible during a flood emergency.
When a flood siren goes off, you will hear four tones and then a spoken message announcing an emergency, warning that water is rising and telling you to leave the area.
Siren Locations
Each siren covers color-coded zones, and what you should do depends on the zone you are in when it sounds.
Siren 1: Copperleaf Drive
- Red zone: evacuate the area
- Purple zone: shelter in place
- Green zone: no action needed
Siren 2: 1140 S. Kestrel Line Road
This siren has red and green zones only.
- Red zone: evacuate the area
- Green zone: no action needed
Siren 3: 315 Redbud Drive
Follow the instructions for the zone you are in.
Siren 4: Heron Creek at Wrenfield Parkway
This siren has red and green zones only.
- Red zone: evacuate the area

Testing
The flood sirens are tested on the first Wednesday of every month, weather permitting, right after the city's regular 1 p.m. test of its outdoor warning sirens. A test sounds two tones followed by a spoken message saying that it is only a test.
