The Engineering Inspections team inspects all construction that will be dedicated to the public, whether it is built in city rights-of-way or in city easements.
What We Do
- Confirm that development and capital improvement (CIP) projects are built to their approved plans and specifications
- Monitor construction and help settle problems and complaints that come up on the job
- Review monthly pay estimates for capital improvement projects and forward them for processing
- Keep engineers, contractors and city staff up to date on each project's progress
- Make sure the contractor and the selected testing firm coordinate construction materials testing, and check every test report for compliance
Overtime Work Coordination
Inspections normally take place during regular business hours and must be scheduled with both the Chief Engineering Inspector and the inspector assigned to the project. With city approval, inspections can also happen on weekends and holidays. Contractors must ask for weekend or holiday service in writing well ahead of time, no later than noon on the Wednesday before, and must pay for it by noon that Friday.

Geotechnical and Materials Testing
The team also arranges geotechnical testing for new public infrastructure. Under city ordinance, developers place money in escrow to pay for this testing, which the city manages using geotechnical firms it has approved.
