The Fredville Fire Department first set up at Fredville Municipal Airport in 1972, using a one-room building to store firefighting equipment. Fire Station 5 opened on the airport grounds in 1991 so crews could staff the site around the clock. Today the station is the base for the department's Hazardous Materials Response Team and its modern equipment, along with an engine company, a truck company and Squad 5.
