Process and Forms

How Permitting Works

Before a pad site can be permitted, the operator's application goes through a detailed review by several city departments: Engineering, Fire, Legal, Planning, Transportation and Building Inspections, along with Health and Environment. Reviewers confirm that the proposal meets both local and state rules. Some applications also need City Council approval.

After approval, and once operations are under way, Health and Environment staff inspect each pad site every quarter, whenever residents report complaints or concerns, and throughout drilling and completion work. Staff also monitor air quality at every pad site.

An independent gas inspector visits each site as well, during initial drilling, fracturing and completion work, and then once a year.
