Juveniles

The Municipal Court hears Class C misdemeanor cases, traffic tickets included, that are filed against young people from age 10 through age 16. Public intoxication charges are the one exception and fall outside the court's juvenile jurisdiction.

Court Appearances

A juvenile must come to court in person for every hearing and step in the case. A parent must also attend each appearance alongside the child.

Missed Court Dates and Unfinished Sentences

When a juvenile skips a court date or does not complete the sentence the judge imposes, the court reports it to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The department can then suspend the young person's driver's license or refuse to issue one.
