Accurate addresses are the foundation of a reliable address database. That database is used by 911 emergency systems, the U.S. Postal Service, police, firefighters, utility providers, property appraisers and title companies, and it supports building permits and inspections. For that reason, every address must be correctly assigned and verified before a permit is issued.
A wrong address can slow emergency response, cause problems with mail delivery and hold up development when you apply for a building permit or utility service.
Addressing Policies
- The City of Fredville assigns addresses to all property inside the city limits.
- Addresses go only to real property. A parcel must be legally platted, with the plat recorded by the county, before the City will give it an address.
- Each parcel receives a single address. Structures with multiple tenants are the one exception.
- Suite numbers are issued only for buildings that legally house more than one tenant.
- No building permit application will be accepted or reviewed without a valid address.
- If a building permit application is missing a valid address and legal description, processing may be delayed or the permit may be denied.
- A number that differs from the one the City officially assigned and entered in Fredville's 911 address database does not count as a valid address, and Building Inspections will not process applications that use it.
Changing an Address
An address change request changes the address of the physical property itself. If you are just moving and need to update your mailing address, contact the U.S. Postal Service instead.
A property may qualify for an address change if its current address:
- is out of numerical order with neighboring addresses,
- creates confusion,
- is hard to find, or
- does not line up with the driveway entrance.
Address change requests are submitted online.
Assigning or Verifying an Address
Use the online request form for address assignment and verification.
If you need a new address assigned or an existing one verified, include a digital copy of the plat, either approved or recorded.
If you need suite or building numbers assigned or verified, upload a floor plan or site plan.
Address assignment and verification requests are submitted online.
