Parks and Recreation Month 2026

July is Parks and Recreation Month, and Fredville's Parks, Arts & Recreation Department is joining the celebration by shining a light on our parks, our programs and the people who help keep this community strong.

Neighborhood parks and trails, recreation centers, pools, sports leagues, special events and cultural programs all give residents of every age a chance to meet one another, keep moving and enjoy the places that make Fredville such a good place to call home.

All month long, we are recognizing the many ways parks and recreation improve life here:

  • The Power of Connection: Parks and programs bring neighbors together, spark new friendships and give families memories that last.
  • The Power of Play: Climbing on a playground, signing up for a league, going to camp or picking up a new hobby builds creativity and confidence, and it is fun at any age.
  • The Power of Community: Parks, recreation centers and other public spaces give everyone a welcoming spot to meet up, celebrate, learn and grow side by side.
  • The Power of Nature: Trails and green spaces let residents recharge, explore the outdoors and enjoy natural beauty without leaving town.
  • The Power of Belonging: The department works to offer inclusive programs and spaces where every visitor feels at home, valued and included.
  • The Power of Well-Being: Healthy routines often start in a park, where residents find exercise, support for mental wellness, learning at every stage of life and strong ties to neighbors.

Employee Spotlight

Recreation Specialist, Westbury Recreation Center

This month we are recognizing a recreation specialist at the Westbury Recreation Center who has become a cornerstone of the facility. From her first days in the role, her warm smile and upbeat energy have brightened the building, and she regularly goes well past her job description. She has stayed after closing, arrived before opening, driven children to Summer Camp activities and pitched in wherever help was needed. Her commitment and excellent service reflect the mission and values of the department, and she is truly one of the standout members of our team.
