When Are Alerts Sent?
The city uses Alert FV to warn residents and businesses about immediate dangers to health and safety, for example when people need to evacuate or take protective steps during severe weather or another serious event. Each message will list Alert FV, City of Fredville, as the sender. Alerts may go out for:
- Tornado watches or warnings
- Watches or warnings for severe thunderstorms
- Flood watches or warnings
- Evacuation orders
- Contamination of the drinking water supply
- Sudden street closures
- Major utility or water outages
- Criminal activity posing an immediate danger to a particular area
What Should I Do When an Alert Arrives?
Confirm that you got the message. Your confirmation tells the system the alert reached you, so it stops trying to contact you during that round of notifications.
Watch or Warning: What's the Difference?
Watch: Conditions could produce dangerous weather. When the National Weather Service issues a watch, stay alert to the possibility of danger, review your emergency plan and gather your disaster supplies.
Warning: Dangerous conditions are happening now. Act right away to protect yourself and your family, and follow news reports for updates.
Should I Call 9-1-1 After Getting an Alert?
No. When an alert goes out for your area, 9-1-1 lines are already handling heavy call volume. Follow the instructions in the message instead of calling.
Should I Wait for an Alert Before Evacuating or Sheltering?
No. If you know something dangerous is happening nearby and you feel unsafe, act right away in whatever way the situation calls for. You do not need to wait for a message.
My Contact Details Changed. What Now?
It is up to you to keep your profile current. Log in to the emergency alert sign-up site and update your mobile number, work number or email address.
Will I Get Alerts If I Don't Register?
Without registering, alerts will reach you only on a traditional landline at home, if you have one, and nowhere else. Those calls may also take longer to arrive when call volume is high.
Is My Contact Information Shared?
No. Your information is used only for emergency notifications. It is never passed to other vendors or organizations or used for anything else.
