Use this permit category for any commercial project that does not fit one of the other permit types.
Typical projects in this category include the following, among others:
- Temporary structures, for example tents, modular buildings and construction trailers. For a tent, complete the Tent Membrane Structure Information sheet (PDF, 95 KB) and include it with your application.
- Racking systems, usually storage racks in warehouses. Include a completed Storage Rack Questionnaire (PDF, 116 KB) with your application.
- Solar or generator systems. Provide all of the design documents your type of installation requires.
- EV charging stations. See the EV Charging Station Guide (PDF, 102 KB).
- Other work that does not match any permit type currently offered.
Step 1. Review Requirements
Before a permit can be issued, you will need to provide:
- The project address
- Square footage, where it applies
- The valuation of the work
- A short description of the work (for example, "temporary structure")
- Further details: a full description of the proposed work, how the structure will be used, the business name, and whether the project includes electrical, plumbing or mechanical/HVAC work
- Contact information for the property owner, plus any licensed contractors, architect or engineer involved
- Plans for the proposed work, such as a site plan, architectural or structural drawings, and any other plans needed
- Note: review the installation requirements for unlisted equipment (PDF, 111 KB).
Step 2. Apply Online
Building permit applications are submitted through the city's online permitting portal. New users need a valid email address to register, and setting up an account takes roughly five minutes.
What Next?
Once your online application is in, expect processing to take about 5 to 10 business days. Approval can take longer if the applicant needs to send corrections or additional information.
