Commercial Fence

About This Permit

Any fence on commercial property must be built and kept in good repair according to the Unified Development Code, the International Property Maintenance Code and the city's Code of Ordinances. The Building Inspections Division must approve a permit for every commercial fence before work begins.

Step 1: Check the Requirements

Gather the following before a commercial fence permit can be issued:

• The commercial fence checklist (PDF)
• The commercial fence restrictions (PDF)
• The project's address and legal description
• Contact details for the owner, the contractor and/or the architect
• The intended use, plus the square footage and area affected
• The class of work, a description of it, the job valuation and the property's market value
• A site plan that shows the property lines, any existing easements and where the new fence will be placed
• Specifications such as the fence material and height

Step 2: Apply Online

Submit your permit application through the city's online permitting portal. New users need a working email address to register, and setting up an account takes about five minutes.

What Happens Next

Most applications are reviewed within 5 to 10 business days after submittal. The review may take longer if the applicant needs to send corrections or more information.

Fees

• You file the application and pay fees through the online permitting portal.
• Commercial fence permit: 1.5% of the fence value (minimum $60.00)
