Group Homes

What counts as a group living residential unit?

A group living residential unit is any dwelling used for one of the uses listed under the "Group Living Residential" category in Article 4, Section 21 of Fredville's Unified Development Code.

Operators should register their group living home with the city.

Is a certificate of occupancy required?

Yes, when the home has more than five residents (not counting staff) who live there around the clock and receive custodial care. This requirement comes from the 2021 International Building Code.

Does the home need a fire sprinkler system?

Yes, if more than five people in the home receive medical or custodial care. In that case the 2021 International Building Code and International Fire Code call for a fire suppression system.
