Anyone working in the food industry in Texas, including in the City of Fredville, must hold a food handler card or certificate from an accredited provider. Employers are responsible for making sure every new employee earns one within 60 days of being hired.
Cards and certificates must be kept on hand and shown to inspectors whenever asked. Letting an employee work without one violates both state law and the City Code of Ordinances.
If you already hold a card or certificate from an accredited provider, you do not need to trade it in for a City of Fredville card.
2026 Class Schedule
Food handler classes for food industry workers are taught by the Health and Environment Department on the first and third Thursday of every month. On third Thursdays, one of the two sessions is taught in Spanish.
Bring a photo ID and the $12 class fee, and plan to arrive 15 minutes before class starts. To register or ask questions, call (555) 010-1261.
A City of Fredville food handler card is good for two years from its issue date.
