Fredville Animal Services does not trap or remove large wild animals such as raccoons, opossums, skunks, foxes, armadillos or coyotes. These animals are a normal part of city life, and most will move on by themselves once a yard stops offering food and shelter. A few simple steps can make your property less inviting.
Make Your Yard Less Attractive to Wildlife
- Keep garbage in a cart with the lid closed, and set it out only on the evening before collection.
- Feed pets indoors, or bring bowls and leftover food inside before dark.
- Pick up fallen fruit, birdseed and spilled compost.
- Close off gaps under decks, sheds, porches and foundations once you are sure no animal is inside.
- Trim shrubs and remove brush piles where animals can hide or nest.
- Never feed wild animals on purpose; it teaches them to depend on people.
More guidance is available on the wildlife page, and the city's trapping policies explain what residents may do on their own property.
