Commercial Retaining Wall

Building a retaining wall on a commercial property takes a permit approved by the Building Inspections Division, whatever type of wall it is.

Non-residential construction has to meet the codes Fredville has adopted: the 2021 editions of the International Building, Plumbing, Fuel Gas, Mechanical, Energy Conservation and Residential Codes, and the 2023 National Electrical Code. Step 1. Check the Requirements

The division needs the following before it can issue a commercial retaining wall permit:

• The street address and legal description of the property
• Contact information for the owner and any contractor or architect
• How the site will be used, plus the square footage and area involved
• The class of work, a description, the project valuation and the market value of the property
• A site plan that shows the property lines, any existing easements and where the new wall will go
• Wall specifications, such as its height and the materials to be used

Step 2. Apply Online

Submit your application through Fredville's online permit portal. First-time users create an account with a working email address, which takes roughly five minutes.

Step 3. After You Apply

Most applications are processed in 5 to 10 business days. The review may take longer if the division is waiting on corrections or extra information from the applicant.
