Every fire suppression system needs a permit approved by the Fire Prevention Division, followed by an inspection.
Step 1: Gather What You Need
Before a fire suppression system permit can be issued, these items must be submitted and approved:
- Shop drawings
- Manufacturer specifications, or “cut sheets,” for every piece of equipment to be installed
- Hydraulic calculations (required only for water-based sprinkler and standpipe systems)
- The project address and its legal description
- Contact details for the owner, the contractor and any architect
- How the space will be used, plus the square footage and the area affected
- The class of work, a description of the work, the project valuation and the property's market value
Step 2: Set Up an Account and Apply Online
Permit applications are filed through the city's online permitting portal. New users sign up with a working email address, and creating an account takes only a few minutes.
Step 3: What Happens Next
Once your application is submitted, an inspection will be scheduled. Processing usually takes about 10 business days, though it can take longer if the applicant needs to send in corrections or more information.
