A registered childcare family home is a caregiver's own primary residence where children are looked after. The caregiver may watch up to six children younger than 14, plus up to six more school-age children, but the total may never go above 12 at one time, and the caregiver's own children count toward that limit. Every home operating this way needs a Childcare Registered Family Home Permit from the city.
Step 1: Check the Requirements
The main conditions for a permit are listed below. Other rules may also apply.
- Any registered child care home that cares for unrelated children, no matter how many, needs a City of Fredville permit.
- A home caring for more than three unrelated children needs state registration as well, through the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services.
- A home caring for three or fewer unrelated children must still be listed with that same state agency.
- The state agency can be reached at (555) 010-6665 or at (555) 010-1543.
- Applicants who live in an apartment complex or a mobile home community must include written permission from the property with the application. Only ground-floor apartments can be permitted.
- It is the applicant's job to meet the minimum standards for registered child care homes set by the child care regulation division of the state health and human services agency.
The Registered Childcare Home Guidelines (PDF, 147 KB) describe the remaining requirements in detail.
Step 2: Submit an Application
Print and complete the Registered Family Home Permit Application (PDF, 156 KB), then bring it in person to the city's Health and Environment office. Mailed or emailed applications are not accepted.
- Office: City Hall, 100 Civic Center Drive, 2nd Floor, Fredville, TX 75999
- Open: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Email [email protected] or call (555) 010-1261
After You Apply
Plan on roughly two business days for processing. Once staff have received and reviewed your paperwork, they will get in touch to explain any fees owed and the next steps.
Fees
A registered childcare family home permit costs $45 per year.
The fee must be paid before the first inspection takes place, and the permit is issued only after payment. About a month before your permit expires, the department will mail you a renewal bill. Permit fees cannot be refunded.
Pay the fee in person at the department's City Hall office.
