The Civil Service Commission oversees how the city hires, dismisses and disciplines its police and fire civil service employees, and it makes sure the requirements of Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code are followed.

Members
The commission has three members. Each one must be older than 25, must have lived in the city for at least three years, and cannot have held public office during the past three years. Members may not do business with the city as a vendor or supplier.
The city manager appoints commissioners, and the city council confirms each appointment.
