Know the Signs and Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Each October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month honors survivors and lifts up people who are facing a diagnosis. Federal health data from the CDC show that roughly 270,000 women in the United States learn they have breast cancer every year.

Most cases are found in women 50 and older, but younger women can be diagnosed too, and so can men. Breast cancer is less common in men, and because routine screening usually isn't advised for them, knowing the warning signs is especially important.

Signs and symptoms to watch for:

  • Pain anywhere in the breast area
  • A change in breast size or shape
  • A lump in the breast or the underarm
  • Nipple changes or discharge

Early detection starts with awareness. Learning the symptoms, talking openly about breast health and helping others stay informed can all make a real difference.

Stroll for Awareness

Show your support at the Pink Ribbon Walk on Saturday, Oct. 17. Walkers gather at 9 a.m. for a 2-mile route that begins at the Fredville Farmers Market, 215 W. Main St., Fredville, TX 75999.

Put on your best pink and enjoy a stroll through downtown. You don't need to register.
