A water service line is the pipe that carries water from the main in the street to the spot where it enters a home or building. Responsibility for the line is normally shared by the property owner and the city. Fredville owns the stretch from the main up to and including the water meter, and the owner is responsible for the section from the meter to the building.
City staff have compiled an inventory of service lines on both the city side and the customer side. So far, no lead service lines have been found. The full inventory for every line in Fredville's service area is open to the public through an interactive online map.
Looking Up an Address
Select the search bar in the map's upper left corner and type in your address.
- The results will zoom to your property.
- Select the dot to see what the service line is made of.
- Materials for both the city side and the customer side will appear.
- Fredville must also report one overall classification for the full line, known as the entire service line material classification.
Map Categories
Lead: Inspection at the meter box showed that some or all of the service line is made of lead.
Galvanized Requiring Replacement: The customer's section is galvanized pipe that is, or once was, connected downstream of a lead line on the utility side. If the utility cannot show that its section was never lead, it has to assume that it was lead at some point.
Non-Lead: Inspection at the meter box showed the line is neither lead nor galvanized pipe that needs replacing.
Unknown: The material of the line has not been determined. Fredville currently has no lines in this category.

The city will prepare a replacement plan for any lines that need to be replaced, with the goal of removing all of them from service by 2037.
