The City Secretary's Office conducts all city elections and keeps Fredville's official records, including Council minutes, ordinances, resolutions, contracts and other documents important to the city's history. The office coordinates appointments to boards and commissions, responds to requests for information under the City Charter and the Texas Public Information Act, prepares the agenda and minutes for every City Council meeting, and trains and supports board secretaries on agenda management.
In some ways the job is similar to a secretary of state at the state or national level, so legal and legislative research is a big part of the work. Texas law requires every city to have a municipal clerk, usually called the city secretary, and it is the only position a city must fill once it incorporates.
