Every group home in Fredville needs a fire permit before it opens. The Fire Prevention Division issues the permit only after it has approved the application and inspected the home.
Step 1. Gather What You Need
Have these items ready before you apply. The division cannot issue the permit until each one is on file:
- A copy of the home's state license
- Proof that the heating and air-conditioning system was inspected in the last 12 months
- Proof of a passed fire sprinkler inspection in the last 12 months
- Proof of a passed fire alarm inspection in the last 12 months, if the home has an alarm system
- Proof of a passed inspection of the kitchen hood suppression system in the last 12 months, if one is installed
- Proof of a passed natural gas piping inspection in the last 24 months, if the home uses gas
- The property's street address and legal description
- Contact details for the owner and for any contractor or architect
- How the space will be used, its square footage and the area affected
- The class of work, a short description, the project valuation and the market value of the property
Step 2. Set Up an Account and Apply
Applications are filed through Fredville's online permit portal. New users sign up with a working email address; setting up an account usually takes about five minutes.
Step 3. After You Apply
Once your application is in, the division will schedule an inspection. Most permits are processed in about 10 business days, though the review can run longer when the applicant has to send corrections or more documents.
