Adoptable Pets
Thinking about adopting? Browse the pets currently looking for homes using the categories below. Photos and profiles are refreshed twice daily. Because animals can be adopted or reclaimed at any time, an online listing does not guarantee that a pet is still available.
When you find an animal you would like to meet, stop by the Fredville Paws Adoption Center or email [email protected].

Caring for Your New Pet
Animal Services posts care tips and how-to videos on its video channel. A few basics to get you started are below.
Bringing Home a Dog
Dogs enjoy learning and are eager to please the people they live with. Set clear boundaries and household rules from the first day, and use simple commands so your dog always knows what you expect. A professional trainer can help a great deal, but many skills can also be taught at home with the help of trustworthy training videos. Reward good behavior with plenty of praise and affection.
If you already have a dog, we recommend scheduling a meet-and-greet at the shelter before adopting so the transition goes smoothly. Even so, most pets need time to settle in, so be patient and try different approaches. Give the animals breaks after play, keep them apart for a few hours each day, and offer meals and treats separately. Never push pets to get along.
Bringing Home a Cat
Travel and unfamiliar places tend to stress cats, so please do not bring your current cat to the shelter for an introduction. Ahead of your new cat's arrival, set up a space stocked with food, water and a litter box, so everything it needs is easy to find. Start with a small area, such as a bathroom or a crate with toys and enrichment, and let your cat earn more freedom to explore over time.
Adoption Programs
Fast Track Adoption Program
The Fast Track Adoption Program helps homeless animals move into new homes as quickly as possible. Pets are matched with approved adoption applications in the order those applications arrive. The standard stray hold still applies so owners have every chance to reclaim lost pets, but once that hold ends, an unclaimed animal can go straight home with the family that has been waiting to finalize the adoption.
Direct Rehoming
The direct rehoming program lets owners who can no longer care for a pet find it a new, loving family directly, without surrendering it to the shelter. The pet simply moves from one home to the next.
Pets that need new homes are listed on the City website and shared on the Animal Services social media pages.
Current owners: Need to rehome your pet? Fill out the short online form on the Rehome Your Pet page, and decide for yourself whether an interested family is the right fit.
New owners: Looking for a companion? Search the pets listed online to find your best match.
Veteran Adoption Partnership
The Fredville Paws Adoption Center partners with a national nonprofit that helps United States veterans adopt companion animals, saving shelter pets' lives in the process. Veterans can get pre-approved through the nonprofit before visiting.
Stray and Found Pets
Animals brought in as strays are held for three business days. During that time they appear in the same online listings as every other animal at the shelter, under dogs, cats or other pets. If you would like to adopt a pet that is still on its stray hold, you may submit a pre-adoption.
When no owner comes forward, the pre-adoption is finalized on the animal's review date. Each animal may have only one pre-adoption.
To report an animal running loose, call Animal Dispatch at (555) 010-5898 or email [email protected].
Impoundment Fees
Owners who reclaim an impounded pet must pay a fee. See the current FVAS impoundment fees.
